The Rotary Club of Los Altos, in collaboration with local Rotary Clubs and the Environmental Sustainability Rotary Action Group, is hosting lithium-ion battery collection events for recycling. These events, part of a larger U.S. initiative, aim to collect batteries found in everyday devices like laptops and cellphones, which are then recycled by Redwood Materials for use in electric vehicle batteries. The initiative addresses environmental concerns, U.S. supply chain security, and human rights issues associated with cobalt mining, while educating consumers about the importance of battery recycling.
